M&M Villa is situated in the north-west part of Crete, the most fertile and greenest part of the island. Beside its tourist vocation, the island is known for its agricultural resources.

The main agricultural products are the following: olives (olive oil), grapes (wine), citrus fruits and vegetables grown all year round.

The valley of Chania has approximately seven million olive trees and is worldwide known for the quality of its olive oil.

The Chania area is also known for its wine. The area produces a variety of grapes which are transformed in a rich variety of wines such as the “Romeiko” varieties and others.

The area of Chania has over 10 wineries offering a great selection of wines. Four of them are less than 10 kilometers from the villa.

You will be well received at these wineries. In each of these wineries wine tasting is offered and wine products are displayed for you to choose and purchase as you please.

The temperatures in the area are moderate in the winter (10 to 20 celcius) and hot in the summer (25 to 35 celcius). Very rarely will it rain in Crete in the months of June, July, August and September and this to the great pleasure of its tourists!

The area has beautiful, clean beaches of which the following should not be missed: Falarsana, Elafonisi (one of the top ten in the world), Balos-Gramvousa. Many other beautiful beaches can also be found in the area. The area is also known for its famous gorges especially the Samaria Gorge, the biggest in Europe. Travelers come from all over the world to live the experience of its crossing (5 to 6 hours – 14 kilometers). Organized tours are available on a daily basis in the summer to facilitate the crossing.

Aquatic sports, cycling and hiking are enjoyed by travelers and the area offers a wide range of choices to those who wish to practice them during their stay.

The area’s major city is Chania, a jewel not to be missed and to be visited during the day and in the evening. Night life with a variety of bars can be found in Chania and closer to the villa in Platanias (10 kilometers). Platanias has also a great selection of taverns-restaurant and shops of all kinds.

The nearest town to the villa (2 kilometers) Kolymbari provides all the services needed and has beautiful taverns-restaurants by the sea coast.

Up-hill from M&M Villa (walking distance), one will discover a large cave called St-John the Hermit after the name of a holy man who once lived in this cave in seclusion. It is said that this cave has the capacity to receive up to 4,000 persons at one time. St-John the Hermit cave is a place where villagers celebrate important events such as Christmas where midnight mass is celebrated with a live crèche. The cave is also a place where many little ones were baptized and older ones married. A beautiful attraction to visit on foot before an afternoon swim at the villa or for the most adventurous early morning before breakfast!

Finally, the area including Chania enjoys a population of approximately 150,000 inhabitants.
